Open the controls for your actual mode
Select the game mode you intend to play before changing controls. Epic notes that available settings depend on the selected or active mode. Open the game menu, enter Settings and find the controller-related controls. On PC, also check that the controller configuration matches the device you are using.
Epic’s controller setup article documents preset configurations and a Custom option on the Controller Mapping page. Start by identifying the current configuration. Make a private note or screenshot of the original layout so that one unsuccessful experiment does not force you to reconstruct every binding from memory.
Change the action that is causing the problem
Begin with a specific difficulty: an action that requires an awkward reach, a button you confuse with another, or a construction input you cannot use comfortably. A clear problem gives you something to evaluate. Changing every control because a professional player uses another layout does not.
For a building-enabled mode, review construction and editing actions as part of the same layout. For Zero Build, focus the first practice session on the actions that mode exposes. Keep platform-specific prompts in mind when comparing advice written for another controller family or a different device.
Test a small revision before making another
Apply the change and practise it in a suitable low-pressure session. Repeat a short sequence such as moving, looking, selecting an item and using the changed action. Compare whether you can perform it deliberately without accidentally activating something else. This is a suggested evaluation routine, not an in-game benchmark.
Treat sensitivity changes separately from binding changes. If you alter aiming response and button placement simultaneously, a better or worse match will not tell you which adjustment mattered. There is no single number in these sources that VICEPULSE can honestly label the best sensitivity for every player.
- Keep a record of the previous mapping before editing it.
- Change one problem action or one related control group at a time.
- Confirm that the new layout is applied and remains usable in your mode.
Keep the setting only if the benefit is repeatable
Use comfort and repeatability as the decision criteria. A layout that feels unfamiliar for a minute is not automatically wrong, but persistent confusion or discomfort is useful evidence. Return to the previous setup if the change solves no clear problem, then try a more limited revision.
After an update or a mode switch, check any action that appears missing before rebuilding the whole layout. First confirm the selected mode and controller configuration. The success condition is a layout you understand and can use consistently, not a copied preset or a promised increase in wins.
