GTA V 100% completion: what actually counts

Use the in-game checklist to separate required objectives from optional extras.

Gameplay spoilers: this guide explains mission or progression requirements.

01 / GTA V

Start with the game counter

Open the pause menu and check Stats, then the 100% checklist. The five categories shown by the game are 69 Story Missions, 20 counted Strangers and Freaks entries, 42 Hobbies and Pastimes, 14 Random Events and 16 miscellaneous objectives. Choices can change the route through story missions; the counter is more useful than a raw list of every available mission.

02 / GTA V

A practical order

Finish the main story, keep Franklin available for his side-mission chains, and combine nearby activities instead of crossing the map for a single marker. Check the counter after a session so a missing prerequisite is found early.

  • Return to Franklin’s required Strangers and Freaks chains, including the collectible follow-ups.
  • For random events, any 14 qualifying events count; there is no single mandatory set of 14.
  • Do not spend time earning gold on every story mission solely for 100%; that is a separate goal.
03 / GTA V

Completion is not every trophy

The 100% statistic is a particular checklist, not a statement that every race, challenge, achievement or enhanced-edition collectible has been finished. The tracker here is a planning aid; the saved-game counter remains authoritative.
