CFI-11xx, CFI-12xx, Slim CFI-20xx and Pro CFI-70xx have different internal layouts. Do not transfer screw maps or drive procedures between revisions. Sony’s M.2 reference includes separate model instructions.

Access first

Component procedure
- 01
Back up files from the expansion drive. Shut down, unplug, cool and remove the correct cover.

Undo the expansion-bay lid. Remove the drive retaining screw; lift the drive slightly and withdraw it by its edges.
- 03
Position the spacer for the drive length. Fully insert the replacement at an angle, lower it onto the spacer and secure it without bowing the board.

Close the bay and console, then reconnect. A new drive may require formatting, which erases its contents. Follow the on-screen instructions.
If the bay lid will not close, check heatsink dimensions. Do not force it.
The console detects the drive and can copy and launch a game from it.
Restore all covers, shielding and cable routing before powered tests. Keep each screw in its original position. If fit or resistance changes, reopen and inspect rather than tightening harder.
